CEREC 3D

CEREC Same Day Crowns & Veneers

CEREC ONE-VISIT CROWNS & VENEERS - A recent innovation available in Dr. Briney's office is the "Computer-Assisted Design—Computer-Assisted Manufacture" crown, or "CAD-CAM." The company that is foremost in this technology is CEREC. This crown is milled by a computer to fit your tooth precisely, thus eliminating the laboratory step in manufacturing the crown, and eliminating human error in the integrity of the crown.

With Cerec's CAD-CAM technology, the crown is made by a computer while you wait, thus eliminating the second appointment and the temporary crown. These Cerec crowns are milled out of pure ceramic (NO METAL).

CEREC technology can also be used to manufacture porcelain fillings and  porcelain veneers.  Remember that Cerec crowns are milled out of a single block of porcelain, and Dr. Briney customizes each crown and veneer to match perfectly.

Advatages of CEREC:

  • CEREC crowns are made in one visit, saving both the dentist and the patient time.

  • With CEREC, there is no need for a temporary crown, which eliminates one of the potential discomforts for the patient.

  • CEREC crowns have no metal in them, resulting in a life-like crown/veneer. This allows for a much more conservative preparation saving valuable tooth structure.

  • CEREC material and technology can also be used for fillings. Since they are made out of porcelain, they are more durable than typical white composite fillings.

  • Best of all: your CEREC crown is designed and made by Dr. Briney, NOT a lab technician that has never seen you.

  • CEREC Technology for Single Visit Porcelain Restorations:

    • CEREC CAD/CAM system

    • 3D image of single tooth and restoration

The CEREC system allows Dr. Briney to take a digital image of the tooth after preparing the tooth for the restoration. This step replaces the typical impression that doctors send to the lab. This digital image is then used to make a 3D computer generated replication of the tooth. This image is then used to design the "Perfect" restoration for the patient. This step takes about 5 minutes, and then the milling machine makes your restoration in 10 minutes out of a porcelain block. 20 minutes later, the custom designed restoration is permanently placed and NO temporaries.

  • Before and After Photos of Actual Patient:

    • Before picture of Cerec Case

      Before Photo

    • After picture of Cerec Case

      After Photo 2 hours later

This particular patient had 3 teeth with severe decay under old amalgam (silver) fillings. After removing all old amalgam and decay, images were taken on the CEREC. All 3 teeth were designed, milled and placed within 2 hours (45 minutes of the appointment, the patient watched TV while the crowns were made). Typically, this procedure would take longer due to temporaries  being placed and a second appointment 2 weeks later. EVERYTHING completed in one appointment.

  • Another Before and After:

    • Before with old Amalgams

    • After with new CEREC fillings

These are photos of CEREC being used for porcelain fillings. Appointment was 90 minutes.

  • Final Before and After:

    • Old broken amalgam filling

    • New CEREC partial crown

Patient has old broken and decayed amalgam filling. 60 minutes later, patient has new CEREC partial crown.
